Guelph Flooring Pros is a booking line. It is not a flooring company, it is not a showroom and it is not a directory. It connects to one local flooring contractor that works across the city and the surrounding county — the limestone-era houses downtown, in The Ward, Old University and around Exhibition Park; the newer stock through Westminster Woods, Clairfields, Pine Ridge and Grange Hill East; and the farmhouses and village properties out through Rockwood, Eden Mills, Puslinch, Aberfoyle, Ariss, Fergus and Elora.

Finding a flooring installer in this city still mostly runs on Facebook groups, a name from a neighbour and hoping the person answers the phone in March. The point of this site is a straight line to a contractor who comes out and measures, checks the subfloor before quoting, puts the material, the prep, the removal, the transitions and the trim on the quote as separate lines, and carries insurance and WSIB coverage for the people who will be working in your house.

What we will not do: publish reviews we do not have, invent a star rating, put a fixed price on the site that nobody can stand behind, claim to be an authorised dealer or certified installer for any flooring brand, or sell your phone number to a list of companies who will all call you.

What the flooring contractor handles

• Hardwood flooring installation, solid and engineered — nail-down, glue-down and floating
• Hardwood refinishing, sanding, staining, and screen-and-recoat
• Luxury vinyl plank, rigid-core SPC and laminate
• Tile flooring and electric in-floor heated floors
• Carpet installation, including stairs
• Stairs, treads, risers, nosings and railings
• Subfloor levelling, squeak repair, plywood overlays and basement subfloor systems
• Baseboard, shoe moulding and transitions as part of the flooring scope

What it does not handle

Structural framing work is a different trade, though the contractor will tell you when a floor needs it and what has to happen first. So are foundation and waterproofing repairs, mould remediation, asbestos abatement, plumbing and electrical rough-in, and the licensed electrical connection on a heated floor. Epoxy and polished-concrete garage and shop floors are a different specialty. You get told when a job belongs to someone else rather than sold work that cannot solve the problem.

How a flooring quote should read

A quote you can trust separates the material from the labour, states the product by name and wear layer, lists the subfloor preparation it assumes, says who is moving the furniture, says whether the old flooring removal and disposal is included, counts the stairs, counts the transitions, and names a schedule. If any of those are missing, that is where the surprise comes from later. Ask for them in writing — from anyone you are considering.

How this works

When you call 548-490-8565 or send the form, your details go straight to the flooring contractor's office. They book a time to come out and measure, check the subfloor for flatness and moisture, and send a written itemised quote. The work is done under their own insurance and WSIB coverage. Your information is not sold, not shared with a list of competing companies, and there is no markup added to your bill for the introduction.

What we won't do

• Publish reviews we didn't earn. When we have them, they'll be real ones with names.
• Quote a firm price before someone has seen the job.
• Send anyone into your property who we would not have in our own.
